Henrik Lundqvist’s future is uncertain.

Now he talks about the situation at the New York Rangers.

“What I went through last winter was pretty hard to be honest,” he says on SVT.

After 15 NHL seasons, most of which were the unscathed king of the New York Rangers, Henke Lundqvist’s position at the club has radically changed.

Two young Russians, Alexandar Georgiev, 24, and Igor Sjestjorkin, 24, have stepped in and taken power, and Lundqvist has become not only the second but also the third violin.

A delicate situation because the Swede is still classified as the great icon of the club and has a considerable annual salary ($ 8.5 million) even next season.

– Nothing lasts so clearly. So you have an objective image and a dream, but then you have to adapt to the environment and reality, says in the SVT program “Luuk & Hallberg”.

“Mentally wrong”

The 38-year-old has long been nicknamed “The King of New York,” but now the crown is undoubtedly in sight.

– What I went through last winter was pretty difficult, to be honest. I have had a certain role and a position in the team for almost 15 years and even during the years that I have played in Sweden, things have changed a lot now. Obviously, I thought a lot, daily, almost every hour for several months, and I think it gets very difficult mentally, says Henke.

“Become your own enemy”

Former New York Rangers player Mats Zuccarello has criticized the club’s treatment of Lundqvist. Criticism has also come from Swedish star Mika Zibanejad, who still plays for the team.

The doorman himself says that he has not yet decided his future.

– I have tried to live in the present and focused on the family and gather my thoughts. Sometimes you become your own enemy about how much you think about things, Lundqvist says.
