Tim Erlandsson has been injured in a cross band.
Hasse Eklund now wants to recruit a new goalkeeper, while suffering with the player.
– It’s really boring, says the FFF coach to the Football Channel.
Young Falkenbergs FF goalkeeper Tim Erlandsson, 23, took a break from soccer last year due to mental illness and was unsure if he would return to soccer.
– I don’t mean that I should put the gloves on the shelf and put them away entirely with the soccer ball, but what was important to me was to take a complete break from soccer and be able to land on it. Then you can get a perspective on it and then get sucked back into the routines to come to training in the morning and be in the locker room with the guys. I think it is very useful for me. I have taken a break and that is what I am doing now. I live in the present and then we’ll see what it takes us later, he told the Football Channel in late June last year.
But in late November, the 23-year-old signed with the Falkenbergs FF and this year he was ready to play all of Swedish football, something that will not be. FFF announced on Friday that the goalkeeper injured one of the crossed bands on Tuesday in goalkeeper training. As a result, the 23-year-old is now forced to undergo surgery and will leave for a longer period.
Head coach Hasse Eklund says he is suffering with the player.
– It is very boring. He came to Falkenberg in a very good way and started training with a lot of confidence, so obviously it is a setback for him, which is very difficult considering his background too, when he has returned from some poor health and such, says Eklund. Soccer channel and continues:
– It also looked very good, at the same time it is also difficult for Falkenberg. We lose a good goalkeeper and a good personality for the next 8-10 months.
How is Tim now, given the background of mental illness too?
– If you look at the pieces, it feels great and is very comfortable. Of course, he has to express himself, but at least he has told us that he is happy and then it is clear that it is difficult for any soccer player to suffer such a serious injury. It’s amazing the first week that it happens and then you can start processing it and find a plan to go back, but right now it doesn’t feel right because it’s a serious injury of course the coach says.
Eklund now thinks that FFF, with Erlandsson’s injury, needs to bring in another goalkeeper for the team. Johan Brattberg has been in squad A since before, but was otherwise not a major goalkeeper. Brattberg made ten games at the Allsvenskan last year, but ended the season as second goalkeeper behind Hampus Nilsson.
– We need to have two good goalkeepers who can fight each other and we must look at what is now and see what we can get depending on the conditions that exist. There is the possibility of players without a contract and then we will see how it is with the window. Håkan (Nilsson, sports manager) is doing well with some suggestions and we will look at the market to see what opportunities we have.
Do you hope it will be resolved?
– Clearly this is a vulnerable position. Now I have complete confidence in Johan (Brattberg), but you also know that things can happen when we start playing. If something happens during a match, we need someone who can score. We have an 18-year-old on the U team who was on the bench twice last year, but he is not a goalkeeper who has the experience to endure several games or jump to this level in a few minutes. There we feel that we need to bring in a better goalkeeper with a little more experience.
