In February 2013, a man was found dead in the cab of a burning truck in Tjörn, a few kilometers north of Gothenburg.

Police have since carried out a murder investigation, but it wasn’t until last fall that the investigation made a breakthrough, when the police group Cold Fall was able to link the fingerprints of a 27-year-old man to help. international.

The 27-year-old was suspected of, together with one or more people, assaulting the driver to death who was strangled and stealing the shipment, which was then worth about 22,000 euros.

Delivered from Romania

He has been detained in his absence since last fall, but was already serving a prison sentence in Romania. In December, the man’s extradition to Sweden was approved.

He has now been charged with murder and aggravated robbery, the district court writes in a press release.

– The truck was hijacked in Falkenberg and the truck trailer was emptied in Hisingen. I mean the driver was killed in Falkenberg or during the trip to Gothenburg and then to Tjörn, says Attorney General Daniel Edsbagge in a comment.

More perpetrators

The district court believes that the act was carried out by several people, but only one could be identified and now brought to justice.

The now accused denies the crime.

– It is very unusual for charges to be brought for a murder that is eight years old. This preliminary investigation would never have been possible without international cooperation. However, it is challenging to judge such an old act in court. In general, it is often very difficult to bring a preliminary investigation to prosecution when it comes to a serious violent crime that has not been resolved in a year, says Daniel Edsbagge in a comment.
