Sunny, windy and wet snow.

This is what the Swedish Easter weather is expected to be this year.

– Sunny in much of the country except for the mountains, summarizes the meteorologist Mikael Sjöstrand.

Easter is at the beginning of this year and already falls now, the first weekend of April.

In the last month, spring has come and gone, purely when it comes to the weather. One moment the sun has looked ahead and then it becomes cloudy or raining the next.

Easter offers a mixed compote. Dry air from the Norwegian Sea penetrates Sweden and provides both sun and wind. Those most likely to receive a spring dose are the southern parts of the country, but also those in the middle.

Some temperatures that have been the last days with up to 15 degrees in Skåne are not something we can see this Easter. Instead, it can be up to ten degrees at most.

– Broadly speaking, it will be sunny in much of the country except for the mountains. They have a pretty shaky Easter in terms of temperature, so it’s a bit colder air that takes over here during Easter than what we saw earlier this week, says Mikael Sjöstrand, Klart’s meteorologist.

Holy Thursday

Easter begins with sunny weather on Holy Thursday in most of the country. The southern parts of the country are between seven and twelve degrees and the warmest is in the Västra Götaland region. In the central areas of the country it can be cloudy with a temperature of up to eight degrees.

In Skåne, Halland and Blekinge it will be more cloudy while in the north it will be gray.

– In the north, there is a front that pulls in an area with snow, which is mainly stuck on the mountain. East of the mountains it is cloudy, but also some rain and wet snow reaching Västerbotten and Norrbotten, says Mikael Sjöstrand.

Good Friday

On Good Friday, there will be snow villages in the mountains for the central parts of the country with five to seven degrees more. In the northern parts there will be mixed cloud cover along the coast with snowfall and more clouds.

In the south, sun is offered.

– It offers similar sunny conditions in many places in the south, especially in the western parts of Svealand and Västra Götaland. From Värmland and down along the coast to Skåne, the weather is likely to be fine on Good Friday. Then maybe there will be a bit of shifting cloudiness at Östra Götaland and Östra Svealand.

Holy Saturday

High pressure across the Atlantic offers more sun on the west coast on Easter Eve. It will also be in the eastern parts of Svealand from Värmland and down into the country. The Baltic Sea landscape, which includes Skåne, Småland, Öland, Gotland, Östergötland and Södermanland, takes on a slightly more changeable cloudiness.

– In the middle parts, it remains clear to semitransparent. From the Jämtland Mountains and upwards, it is the snowy villages that arrive. It can be a bit warmer, so it can be wet snow that falls on Easter Eve, says Mikael Sjöstrand.

In the northern parts of the country there will be some sunshine in the morning, but during the day there will be more cloudiness.

Easter day

Sunday will start to be more volatile weather. Winds from the southwest are closing in, making the forecast a bit more uncertain in the southern parts. In the central parts of the country, there are again chances of sunshine over Gävleborg. There may be downpours in the mountains, but the air is softer.

The temperature can reach eleven degrees in Gävleborg.

– In the north, there will be changing clouds when the soft air gets there, says Mikael Sjöstrand.

Easter monday

Monday is still unclear, but if the low pressure takes over, it could mean rain over southern Sweden. In the northern parts, snow can fall on the area.

– At the moment, you can go against rain or snow or the heat stops and it will be a sunny day on Monday, says Mikael Sjöstrand.

Next week’s continuation features unstable weather.

– The weather is more unstable next week. So there is also colder air in Sweden, so we will probably not go above the ten degree line, but a little further in the south, says Mikael Sjöstrand.
