Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in early March resonated around the world. The couple accused the British royal family of racism and Meghan Markle said she felt so bad that she considered ending her life.

During the two-hour interview, Meghan Markle also said that she and Prince Harry were secretly married three days before the official wedding at St George’s Chapel in the UK on May 19, 2018.

– Three days before the wedding we got married. Nobody knows. The promises we made in our room are just the two of us and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Markle said according to the Daily Beast.

“Personal promises exchanged”

The statement was heavily criticized with many pointing out that at least three witnesses are required for a marriage to be legal in the UK. Now, a spokesperson for the couple claims that only their promises were said and nothing else.

“The couple exchanged personal vows for a couple of days before the official / legal wedding on May 19.”the spokesperson writes to the Daily Beast.

The Sun has also obtained the couple’s marriage certificate, which was issued on May 19.
