A disabled man in need of a lot of support was left alone in the emergency room with covid symptoms and a note hanging around his neck, western Swedish media report.
It was in December that the man, who could not speak or move, had a high fever and showed symptoms of Covid-19. The group accommodation in which he lives in Tanum Township sent him alone in a taxi to the emergency room. It was unattended for a total of 15 hours.
The next day, a Lex Sarah report was written. The man’s relatives describe him as treating him as “a package in the mail,” reports P4 Väst. They have reported this to the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate (Ivo).
Tanum municipality officials tell P4 Väst and Bohusläningen that there appears to have been a misunderstanding of the staff directives. Another possible explanation that arises is that the hospitals had restrictions for companions, as an infection control measure.
The municipality has provided the results of its own investigation to Ivo.
