Fewer and fewer fatal accidents on Swedish roads

Fatal accidents in Swedish road traffic continue to decline, even in February. In the last twelve months, the number of fatalities has decreased by 16 percent, according to preliminary figures.

In February this year, twelve people lost their lives on Swedish roads, a reduction of two fatal accidents compared to the same month last year. This is shown by preliminary figures from the Swedish Transport Agency.

Of those who died this year, half traveled by car. Three were traveling in a truck and two were pedestrians who were hit by vehicles. The latest fatal accident is not categorized for privacy reasons.

Two motorists died in individual accidents and three died in connection with assembly accidents. Two of the dead were over 65 years old.

In the last five years, an average of 17 people have died in traffic accidents during the month of February.

During the last twelve months, from March 2020 to February 2021, 177 people died in road traffic. In the previous twelve months, the number of people killed was 211. This represents a reduction of 16 percent.

The 177 deaths represent a 34 percent decrease compared to the average value of the death toll during the current twelve-month period over the past five years.
