Spanish police say they have arrested a mob boss from the Italian organization ‘Ndrangheta. The police do not want to give the full name of the detainee, only the initials GR
The detainee is 34 years old and the Catalan police have him under surveillance for a long time. He was arrested at a flea market in Barcelona after being wanted for several years in Italy, for drug trafficking, money laundering and connections with the mafia.
It was French drug detectives who informed the Barcelona police that the mafia boss was in the area. With the help of the Italian police, they managed to locate one of the man’s relatives, who settled in Spain and later also found the wanted person.
The 34-year-old was arrested in his absence last year and sentenced to 20 years in prison in an Italian court. ‘Ndrangheta is in the caliber of the toe of Italy and is considered to be the richest and most powerful criminal syndicate in Italy. The mafia organization controls most of the cocaine smuggling in Europe.
