Many want to take care of the abandoned dogs of Tomelilla

When animal welfare inspectors arrived at the farm, they found 21 abandoned dogs in a barn. The barn owner had previously been notified of an animal ban.

Dogs lived in their own feces. They were thin and skin care was grossly neglected.

The dogs had not been outdoors for three months and were living in boxes in a stable.

Animal welfare inspector Mattias Gårdlund says that those who want to buy dogs should be carefully monitored.

The dogs had not been outdoors for three months and care was greatly neglected. The animals were described as thin and unkempt.

– They lived in boxes where there was dog shit on the floor, straw, a water change and nothing else, Mattias Gårdlund has said.

Live in a pension

The dogs have been allowed to live temporarily in a boarding house since they were cared for, and have received rehabilitation and care.

But now the county vet has decided that they should be sold. And new owners must be selected carefully.

– We carefully control who can buy. There is a risk of buying bulvans and dogs should not end up in a bad environment again, Mattias Gårdlund tells Ystads Allehanda.

Has informed the police

Already several have contacted the Skåne County Administrative Board after reading about dogs.

– The interest in dogs is enormous. There are many who want to take care of them, Mattias Gårdlund tells the newspaper.

The person who owns the barn where the dogs were seized claims that someone else owns the animals, says Ystads Allehanda.

But it is still the owner of the farm who has been reported to the police as suspected of animal cruelty and violations of animal bans, and is also suspected of being involved in smuggling activities.
