The pro-Kurdish party in Turkey may regroup

The main pro-Kurdish party in Turkey is preparing to be banned. Clashes between pro-Kurdish groups and the Ankara regime are intensifying.

The People’s Democratic Party (HDP) suggests that it may pursue its policy with a different designation if a Turkish court bans the party due to alleged links to the PKK.

A high court in Turkey is said to have launched an investigation into the HDP, which is the third largest party in the Turkish parliament. The HDP has consistently denied that it has ties to movements like the PKK.

But in recent years, the Turkish authorities have arrested thousands of full party members and managed to expel several mayors and MPs from the HDP.

– Until now, we have continued to fight against other established parties, even when our party has been stopped. This is how it will continue, says one of the HDP leaders, Pervin Buldan, in a meeting with foreign journalists.

Ankara’s efforts against Kurdish groups have intensified following reports that the PKK has killed 13 detainees. Among them were both the army and the police. The killings are said to have been carried out in connection with a military operation to free hostages held in Iraq’s Gara region, some 40 km from the Turkish border. According to the PKK, the hostages were killed in a Turkish bombardment.
