Faster vaccination in the future, but the 76-84 age group will have to wait a week to book appointments. This is the message from the Skåne Region after the first week with an appointment and the message that the Astra vaccine can also be used for the elderly.
There was a rush when everyone over the age of 85 received the letter this week with an offer to book the vaccination at their health center.
But as the availability of vaccines remains scarce, the next age group, 76-84 years, will have to wait to start reserving vaccination time until week 11, that is, from March 16. Only then will the letter with a vaccination offer be sent to them.
– We will continue to vaccinate those over 85 and others who remain in phase 1 in the coming weeks, says Maria Landgren, Vaccine Coordinator in the Skåne Region in a press release.
However, his forecast is that the Skåne Region will be able to increase the vaccination rate within a few weeks. This is because the Public Health Agency announced on Thursday that the Astra Zeneca vaccine can now be used in Sweden also for people over 65 years of age.
New studies have shown that the Astra vaccine provides a good protective effect even for the elderly.
This means that there are now three vaccines available: Pfizer, Moderna and also Astra Zeneca for vaccination in phase 2 (all over 65 years) covering a total of just over 380,000 Scanians.
Health centers are ready to syringe everyone, but vaccine deliveries are not expected to reach higher volumes until April.
