Several people with cosmetic fillers have had complications related to the Covid-19 vaccination.
For Anna, 27, the vaccination ended with an allergic reaction.
– Suddenly began to itch and purse his lips, says Anna.
Every year, almost 100,000 Swedes perform various beauty procedures. One of the most common are so-called fillers on the face, to smooth wrinkles or to give volume to the lips and cheeks.
Nurse Anna, 27, who works in psychiatry in Stockholm, is one of them. She has chosen to have lip fillers.
This weekend, Anna received her first dose of the covid-19 vaccine from Astra Zeneca. Just a few minutes after the vaccine was injected into her arm, her lips swelled considerably.
“My lips started to itch and itch and then it became clear that I had had an allergic reaction to the vaccine,” says Anna.

Anna had heard that people with fillers could have a reaction to Moderna’s vaccine. I was not prepared for that to happen with the Astra Zeneca vaccine.
Initial reports on Modern
An advisory panel to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning earlier, after several people experienced swelling and inflammation where they injected fillers in connection with Moderna’s corona vaccine.
The Swedish Medicines Agency has received similar reports of side effects with both Moderna’s and Pfizer Biontech’s vaccines. To date, eight people have reported problems in which cosmetic fillers were injected, after vaccination.
– This is not a shock. All materials that are added to the body, such as fillers, can cause immune reactions. The vaccine plus the fillers can make you react, says Elisabeth Bernspång, a doctor and researcher at the Agency for Medical Products.
Astra Zeneca: There are no similar cases
Before Anna was vaccinated, she was aware of the side effects that can affect those who have fillers. But since she was going to get the Astra Zeneca vaccine, she wasn’t worried.
-I had it a bit in the back of my mind, that you can have side effects if you have fillers. But I thought it was from other vaccine manufacturers. I didn’t know you could get it from the Astra Zeneca vaccine too, says Anna.
According to Andreas Heddin, Astra Zeneca’s medical director in the Nordic region, the pharmaceutical company itself has not encountered similar reactions.
– So far we have not noticed this type of side effect in our case reports, but we are looking at it and we know that it has been described above for other coronavin vaccines.

Anna has asked to remain anonymous.
The doctor: the same thing happened yesterday
After the reaction, Anna was treated with antihistamines. She later learned that another woman had a similar reaction the day before. Despite this, Anna did not receive any warnings or doubts about whether she had fillers before the vaccination began.
– They should have asked me if I had fillers, especially since another girl reacted badly the day before. I wanted a little warning that it could happen.
The Medical Products Agency believes it is too early to issue general advice on fillers in relation to vaccination. This requires a greater number of side effect reports to analyze and draw conclusions. Furthermore, the reactions are not considered dangerous as they can be treated easily and quickly.
But Elisabeth Bernspång still says that she, as a doctor, thinks she should consider stopping refilling before getting vaccinated.
– If you do not have to use fillers for medical reasons, you may not need to do so until a few months after vaccination.
Syringe Two Anxiety
In nine weeks, Anna will receive her second dose and now she thinks she is afraid of how her body will rule then.
– I have heard that you react more strongly to the second dose and if I react like this now, what will I receive for the side effects?
– They should announce this to the public so that more people know what can happen before getting vaccinated.
Actually, Anna has a different name.
