UN Envoy on Princess Latifa: “The Biggest Mistake”

[ad_1]

Princess Latifa is the daughter of Emir Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, leader of the Emirate of Dubai and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates. The father is said to be extremely controlling and in 2018 she is said to have tried to escape his grasp but was caught.

Later that year, Mary Robinson, then UN Commissioner for Human Rights, met the princess over lunch after being invited by her family. Subsequently, a movie clip was recorded, which had the official blessing of the emirate, where the princess is sitting at a kitchen table without absent supervision next to Mary Robinson.

The royal family of Dubai has previously claimed that the princess has mental problems. In an interview with the BBC, Robinson said that Princess Latifa received psychiatric care.

– She is a very understanding young woman, who clearly has problems, it is clear that she needs the medical help she receives, said Mary Robinson, who was friends with Latifa’s then “extra mother”, Princess Haya.

Robinson received massive criticism from human rights groups for apparently being uncritically on the side of the royal family and spreading his version.

Recently posted the Freelatifa campaign, which is fighting to free the princess, moving images said to have been recorded at the house where she is detained in Dubai. In the movies, which are supposed to have been filmed in secret, the princess says that she is being held hostage “and fears for her life.”

Mary Robinson now says she was naive and made a big mistake.

– I let my heart control my head. I went there to help a friend. I was naive. She should have been more vigilant, she says on the Irish talk show Late Late Show.

She continues:

– That’s all I can say and it saddens me when I realize I’ve made a big mistake. I’ve made mistakes before and this is the biggest. I hope I never end up in this situation again.

Robinson, who is also a former president of Ireland, now says he believes one hundred percent in the princess. She believes that Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum needs political support and should be released.

Last week he declared UAE that the princess is being cared for at home and that the media coverage does not reflect the real situation.

“His family has confirmed that his Highness is being cared for at home, with the support of his family and professional doctors.” His condition continues to improve and we hope that he can return to the public at the appropriate time, “the UAE embassy in London wrote in a statement from the family, according to Reuters.
