The Swedish Maritime Administration carried out a total of 1,221 marine salvage operations in 2020, compared to 1,134 the previous year.
The number of anti-pleasure craft efforts rose markedly to 902, a twelve percent increase compared to the average during the years 2016-2020.
– We don’t have a direct analysis. But increased efforts against pleasure craft may be linked to the pandemic and more people celebrating holidays at home in Sweden, says Laila Kärrhage, operations manager for the Maritime Administration’s Air and Maritime Rescue Center. Swedish.
Another reason may be that more unaccustomed people went out to the lake, again because most had holidays at home in Sweden.
– Probably must be a combination of that.
Most of the rescue operations took place during the summer months, with a peak of 306 operations in July.
It is noteworthy that the number of efforts decreased compared to the hot summer of 2018, when the figure was 1,235.
– Statistics can often be related to hot or bad summers, says Laila Kärrhage.
