Despite great concern about a third wave, fewer and fewer are dying from covid-19.
Five new deaths were reported Thursday and the number of infected is decreasing.
– The group of special housing is shrinking faster, says Anders Tegnell at today’s press conference.
The effect of vaccination is beginning to be noticeable and fewer and fewer older people die after being infected by the coronavirus.
– Among people over 65 and the group living in special housing, the number of cases is decreasing. The number of deaths is also decreasing, says Anders Tegnell.
The message comes just a few weeks after he himself raised concerns about the upcoming third wave.
In tonight’s “Corona Special” at SVT, Ali Mirazimi, professor and virus researcher at the Karolinska Institutet, commented on the corona situation in Sweden.
– Already now we see an effect of the vaccine in those who live in special dwellings. The death toll is dropping enormously now, he says.

70 percent fully vaccinated
In total, 83 percent of all people living in a nursing home in Sweden have received at least one dose of the vaccine. About 70 percent are fully vaccinated, according to the Minister of Social Affairs, Lena Hallengren (S).
– Right now we really see the light in the tunnel. We still have a long way to go and it is up to us to reduce the spread of infection while we vaccinate. So this section goes fast, says Ali Mirazimi.
On Thursday, five people were reported dead, but there may be some delay in the statistics according to the Swedish Public Health Agency.
