Starting March 5, hugging New Yorkers can go to the movies, but the rooms can only be filled to a quarter or a maximum of 50 people, and must wear mouth guards.
Already, some places in the state have been able to open their movie palaces, but within the multi-million dollar city, theaters have been blocked.
New York is the second largest film market in the United States, at 7.4 percent, and in the largest, Los Angeles, theaters remain closed. Before the New York opening, according to The Hollywood Reporter, about 38 percent of the nation’s salons have been able to open, with various restrictions.
And thanks to the film industry for the long-awaited announcement, AMC announced immediately after Cuomo’s press conference that they intend to open their 13 cinemas in the big city.
Cuomo’s announcement comes days after permission was granted to open major venues like Madison Square Garden to the public. However, Broadway remains closed. Even if theaters were to open with reduced capacity, most people would probably give up, since they are not considered to be able to operate without more or less full people.
