Continued population increase in Jönköping county

[ad_1]

– What makes the population of Jönköping county increase compared to the previous year is mainly the influx. The county registers 11,607 immigrants, compared to 10,771 immigrants, says Linus Garp, a population statistician for Statistics Sweden in a news release.

Great differences between municipalities

In eight of the county’s 13 municipalities, the population increased. The largest percentage increase was registered in the municipality of Vaggeryd with 1.8 percent. In five of the county’s municipalities, the population declined last year, most in Gislaved Township, where the population decreased by 1.1 percent.

The largest municipality in the county, Jönköping, increased by 1,346 inhabitants. It was still the smallest increase since 2015. In the past four years, the municipality has increased its population annually by between 1,700 and 2,200 people.

Increased a lot in ten years

In the last ten years, Jönköping County has had a significant population increase, according to statistics from Statistics Sweden.

– Jönköping County is one of the counties that has had a remarkable population growth in recent years. In ten years, the number of inhabitants has increased from 336,866 to 365,010, an increase of 8.4 percent, says Linus Garp.

Minimum population increase in 15 years

Across the country, the population increased by 0.5 percent in 2020, which is the lowest increase in 15 years. The population increased last year by 51,706 people and the population of Sweden at the beginning of the year was 10,379,295 people.

Even though immigration to Sweden dropped dramatically compared to 2019, it was the immigration surplus that primarily increased Sweden’s population, according to Statistics Sweden.
