He called Donald Trump a “fool” before the last election, then praised him to the heavens.
He then made the same turn after the assault on the Capitol.
President Biden is said to be surprised by his old friend and not alone in finding answers to the mystery:
– What happened to Lindsey Graham?
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is currently at former President Mar-a-Lago’s luxurious residence in Florida for a couple of days of golf and dinner with Donald Trump.
At the same time, in an article, the Washington Post reviews the strange twists and turns of their relationship, which have even led political opponents to question Lindsey Graham’s mental health.
During the 2016 presidential election campaign, in which both fought for the Republican Party nomination, he was one of the harshest critics of Donald Trump.
Graham, who was previously considered one of the more moderate establishment phalanges of the Republicans, said at the time that the party “deserved to be destroyed” if Donald Trump were elected as a candidate, repeatedly questioned his ability to rule the country and once called a “fool”.
When Graham at one point urged Trump to “stop being a sheep’s head,” he responded by taunting him during an election rally. Donald Trump recounted how Graham called him a few years earlier to bring his name up on Fox News and also ask for campaign contributions.

Converted after Trump’s victory
Trump produced a note in which he wrote down Graham’s phone number in connection with the conversation, read it, and urged people to call.
-It’s a few years old, but give it a try, he told the audience.
When Donald Trump became the front runner and then won against Hillary Clinton, it sounded different. During his years in the White House, Trump had a close ally in Lindsey Graham.
Trump is reported to have told advisers that he was surprised by Graham’s exuberant style after the fierce fighting they fought during the election campaign.
The former White House staff member of the former president says Graham always tried to spend time with Trump on the golf course, the Washington Post reports. Several of them say they like the shine of the stars around Donald Trump.
After the assault on the Capitol, he made the same turn again, after supporting Donald Trump to the end in his attacks on the election result.
Hours after the congressional riots, he stood in the House and said “don’t tell me” and said he was sad that his political journey with Donald Trump ended that way.
In an interview two days later, Graham stated that he had never joked so much about America before and that he was frustrated with the way Trump dealt with the storm.
– The president must understand that his actions were the problem, not the solution, he said in an interview.

Came back after the airport commotion
Shortly after, he was cited by Trump supporters who yelled “traitors” at him at the Washington airport. Opinion polls also showed that the majority of Republican voters lag behind the then president. Then everything turned again.
Now Lindsey Graham is one hundred percent behind Donald Trump. He accompanied him on a trip to Texas, gave advice to the Supreme Court and has praised the former Fox News president several times in recent weeks.
He recently said that Donald Trump would win the Republican nomination if he ran in the next election.
– I don’t know what you want to do. Because he has championed conservative success and people appreciate his winning streak, he will dominate the game for years to come. The way I see it, there is no chance we can achieve our goals without Trump, Lindsey Graham said.
In doing so, he goes squarely against Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate, who called Trump “morally and practically responsible” for the assault on Capitol Hill and wants nothing to do with the former president.
High-ranking Republicans who know both men tell the Washington Post that Lindsey Graham tries to remain an important person and enjoys surrounding herself with people in power.
Matt Moore, a political consultant in South Carolina who worked with Lindsey Graham’s 2020 re-election campaign, says the answer to the riddle is simple, states the Washington Post:
He wants to ally himself with the most popular person in the party.
“He would rather sit at the table than not,” Moore told the newspaper.
One who has shook his head at all of Lindsey Graham’s twists is Joe Biden. During Biden’s tenure in the Senate as a member of Delaware, they became close friends, despite representing different parties.
A mystery to Biden
In a filmed interview from 2015, Graham was moved to tears when he spoke about Biden, calling him “the nicest person I have ever met in politics” and “the nicest person God ever created.”
But after the election, he did not want to recognize Joe Biden as the incoming president, and they have not spoken since he was sworn in.
According to a Washington Post source, Joe Biden was “shocked” by Graham’s remarks and asked “What happened to Lindsey?”
Now in Mar-a-Lago, Lindsey Graham and Donald Trump will talk about the future ahead of the president’s expected return at the conservative CPAC conference next weekend. Graham has said he wants to speak to Trump about how he can help Republicans win by reaching larger constituencies.
– I like where we go. We are about to become the workers party and its populism is helping us. We just have to get the women back from the suburbs, he says.
