The driver had drank a pint of vodka before the accident that killed 5-year-old Siri.

He was driving 135 kilometers per hour on a 70-lane highway, with a forged driver’s license.

The 52-year-old is now charged with, among other things, aggravated driving while intoxicated and causing the death of another person with aggravated effects.

On August 27 last year, 5-year-old Siri, her one-year-old siblings, and her father were driving home in Oskarström, 20 km north of Halmstad, when a car suddenly headed straight for them.

The other vehicle had ended up on the wrong side of the road on top of a hill and the cars collided head-on. One vehicle was thrown into a barn and the other into the ditch on the other side. Siri did not survive.

The 29-year-old father suffered minor injuries, including a bleeding lung and an eye injury, but the one-year-old survived unharmed.

The driver’s wife died

The driver of the approaching car was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. His 57-year-old wife, who was sitting next to him in the car, also died.

The father mourned his daughter in an emotional post on Facebook that was shared and commented on by thousands of people.

“My beloved little Siri, you have left us forever,” he wrote.

“I did everything I could to stay alive, but one man decided to get in the affected car and drive awfully fast on our side of the road and finally extinguish your wonderful little life that you had to start. You leave me with such a void that it cannot be described. “

2.19 per thousand in blood

On Wednesday, the 52-year-old man was charged with gross traffic negligence, aggravated drunk driving, aggravated causing the death of another person, aggravated causing bodily injury, aggravated illegal driving and use of false document.

According to the police collision investigation, the man was driving about 135 kilometers per hour on Highway 70 and had 2.19 per thousand alcohol in his blood. The police limit for drunk driving is 0.2 per thousand on blood.

According to court prosecutor Jörgen Bengtsson, the driver has been “extremely negligent and has shown an obvious disregard for other people’s life and property”. He also had no right to drive a car. According to the indictment, the man identified himself at the time of the accident with a forged Lithuanian driver’s license.

I drank a pint of vodka

The 52-year-old admits to aggravated drunken driving, use of a false document and illegal driving, but denies the other three charges.

He has said on questioning that he and his wife have been fishing at Nissan and each drank a pint of vodka and strong beer. They had planned to sleep outside, but began to argue and the wife had wanted to drive home. According to the man, who had driven on the highway several times before, the wife suddenly grabbed the wheel just before the accident. He had seen the approaching car on country highway 678, but he doesn’t remember why she grabbed the wheel or which direction she tried to turn it. The man estimates that he drove 80 kilometers per hour.

Aftonbladet has spoken with Siri’s father, who approves of this post of Siri’s name and image. The father announces that the family does not want to comment until after the trial.

According to prosecutor Jörgen Bengtsson, the trial will begin in mid-March. He has no comment other than the accusation.
