Jazz pianist Chick Corea died of cancer on Thursday, Rolling Stone reports.
The artist’s Facebook page has also confirmed the death.
Helped Miles Davis achieve a more modern sound
Chick Korea’s career spans five decades and began in the 1960s when it collaborated with Stan Getz and Herbie Mann, among others.
During the latter part of the 60s, he joined the Miles Davis Band.
He played a key role in getting the legendary trumpeter to switch to a more modern studio sound with albums like Bitches Brew, writes Rolling Stone.
– What musical creation does for people, I have observed, is to stimulate what is natural in all of us. It is an innate mind in each person. You don’t have to be a professional in any way, all you have to do is be a living person and be open to the play of your imagination, Chick Corea said in an interview with the Jazz Times last year.
