Republican Congressman Ron Wright from the state of Texas died after being infected with the coronavirus.
Therefore, he is the first elected politician in office in the United States Congress to die in the suites of covid-19.
Wright, 67, was a member of the House of Representatives and has been battling cancer in recent years. He died last Sunday in a Dallas hospital, where both he and his wife were treated after being infected by the coronavirus.
Wright said on January 21 that he had tested positive for COVID-19, but that his symptoms were mild.
“I feel good and will continue to work for 6th Ward residents from home this week,” he wrote.
US President Joe Biden laments the pain in a statement.
On December 29, Wright’s party partner Luke Letlow also died in the coronavirus suites. Letlow, 41, was elected to the House of Representatives in November, but never took office before COVID-19 took his own life.
More than 460,000 people have died in the United States since contracting COVID-19 and more than 27 million tested positive for the coronavirus.
