Toronto’s Wayne Simmonds and Auston Matthews celebrate victory over Vancouver.

Auston Matthews scored two goals when Toronto defeated Vancouver 5-1 in the NHL.

Thus, he has not only scored goals in seven straight games, but also became the first in Toronto to score ten shots this season.

Toronto’s Wayne Simmonds also scored two goals, while Zach Hyman scored one goal and one assist.

Home team Toronto led 5-0 with just over two minutes left in the game. Then Brock Boeser directed Quinn Hughes’ shot, after a pass from Elias Petterson, and Vancouver’s game zero was broken.

Vancouver has been in almost bi-weekly form this season: four losses this week, four wins last week and four losses the week before.

– It never feels good to lose a hockey game, we are clearly in a slump right now, but it’s about having the right attitude. You have to go back to the next game and give even more, says Tyler Myers of Vancouver.

The meeting between the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh was decided for the first time with just under three minutes left in regular time when Anders Lee scored the goal 4-3. Islanders Jordan Eberle scored two goals and Semjon Varlamov in the goal played his 500th NHL game.

The Islanders’ games earlier this week against Buffalo were canceled due to league security measures to prevent the spread of the infection and the last time they played was on January 31.
