It was during an evening walk through Klarälven in Karlstad together with master Lars Jansson that the Ragge dog, a six-year-old Irish setter, managed to tear himself apart and run towards the ice.
– You probably thought it was water farther away, but the ice there was much thinner. It broke and so it happened, says Lars Jansson.
For him, there was only one thought: save his beloved dog.
– You feel “what phase should I do, I have to go out”. They never thought of asking for help. I ran down and thought I might as well crawl on this thin ice. But it wasn’t long before it broke for me too.
Nearby, Kristin Erdefelt saw what was happening and called 112 as she ran into the water.
– I realized it was serious, there were ten less that day, he says.
Kristin Erdefelt was one of Klarälven’s heroes. “It’s lucky that everything went well, you had time to think about what could have happened.”

Jörgen Carlsson was also present on January 26, who quickly threw a life preserver at Lars Jansson.
Despite the icy cold in the water, she managed to stay calm.
– I was so focused on how things were going for Ragge and kept looking for him. I saw him fight and fight with his paws.
“It means a lot”
With the help of Kristin Erdefelt and Jörgen Carlsson, among others, Lars Jansson made it out of the water.
– The first thing she said was, “Save my dog, save my dog!” Says Kristin Erdefelt.
Now, instead, he focused entirely on Ragge.
By hooking a lifeline to the dog’s collar, Ragge was able to save himself.
He quickly stood up and looked at one with his big brown eyes. I took it directly to Lars. It was great when they were able to meet before he left by ambulance.
Kristin Erdefelt understood that they were incredibly close to each other.
– When I saw that he had got up and approached me, I was very happy! I shook off the cold, but was still very happy, says Lars Jansson and continues.
– I live alone, so it means a lot to me. So I did not hesitate to throw myself on the ice and try to catch it.
Ragge is a relocation dog that Lars acquired about two years ago.
– We agreed very well immediately. It is incredibly gentle and harmonious, fantastic.
After the ice accident, Ragge has had no interest in walking near water.
– I think it’s in his memory too. I don’t think I’ll do it until I feel like it’s a different season.
