meSome forty drawings make their way through a single black and white loop like a border through the two largest rooms at Gallery Magnus Karlsson. Unpretentious formats create intimacy. Each image has its exclusive right. However, they all seem connected to each other naturally. Like a sketchbook taken apart side by side and displayed on the walls.
Ink drawings from Bruno Knutman (1930-2017) arouses both curiosity and some uncertainty. At least with me. There is something here that prevents the gaze from having immediate access to everything that is hidden within and under rains of black and rough lines. As if there is a secret filter that requires the proper distance to what you see. Too close, everything goes soft. Too far, the details are blurred. One step forward, two back. Zoom out and zoom in. The eyes finally adjust and begin to find their way through the boisterous game of lines. It is fascinating how the images themselves teach us to see. The stories emerge from the pitch black line. Little dramas, enigmatic scenes, sad and funny creatures.
