Blinken lobbied China in premiere talks
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has raised the question of how China treats Uyghur, Tibetan and Hong Kong minority groups in his first talks with top Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi.

China defended its policy in the phone call, which was the first between the two countries’ top politicians since Joe Biden became president of the United States.
Blinken also pressured China to accept the international community’s condemnation of the military coup in Myanmar, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
During the conversation, Yang Jiechi emphasized that Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet are internal Chinese policies, with which outsiders have nothing to do. He called on the United States to “correct the mistakes” made in recent years, the Chinese embassy in the United States said in a statement.
He is also said to have urged Washington to strictly adhere to the “one China” principle, which means recognizing Taiwan as part of China. According to Yang Jiechi, this issue is the most important and sensitive when it comes to relations with the United States.
