Russian President Vladimir Putin secretly had one built giant palace in the Black Sea in southern Russia. The palace has cost 100 billion rubles, equivalent to more than 11 billion crowns, according to Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny.

Barricades and guards

The so-called palace is closely watched.

– There are barricades on all access roads and the area is fenced and patrolled by guards with dogs, says Bert Sundström, SVT correspondent in Russia.

Supposedly hotel

The SVT team had to be content with filming from a distance and talking to Russians in the nearby town of Gelendzhik.

Things were better then for the Russia1 television channel, which is owned by the Russian state. The channel’s reporter was given a tour of the area by a person said to be “involved” in the construction.

Through the AP news agency, SVT can publish parts of that report.

The report claims that it is simply a hotel, which is not ready yet. But it is not clear who owns the hotel.
