The heads of units have been vaccinated before the care staff in the Kiruna municipality flat.
The Kommunal union is furious at the action.
– We have been wrapped in plastic all year and we fight. And now this. That’s the last straw, says Irene Eriksson, a security representative for the home care service in Kiruna.
Many auxiliary nurses and care staff in Kiruna municipality are waiting to receive their first vaccine injection.
At the same time, several unit chiefs have been vaccinated with “ribbons” left over. This was announced by security representatives during the week, which has been confirmed by managers.
– We’re so pissed off, says Irene Eriksson.
Security representatives of the home care service in Kiruna say that the staff had to fight enormously during the pandemic. Partly because of the difficult care situation, partly because of access to protective equipment.
– We have worried about everything and it has been very difficult. This is another betrayal and we don’t seem to have such great value. Everyone is completely devastated and many do not have the strength to keep going to work, he says.
“Sunken view of your staff”
Kommunal in Norrbotten is furious at the action and directs strong criticism of the municipality.
– It’s sad. They beat the legs of their employees, those who fight at the front against the crown. At the same time, they go against the guidelines and priority order of protecting those most at risk of becoming seriously ill or dying. I’m very pissed off, says Zara Leghissa, Kommunal Norrbotten department director.
Many of the municipality’s members are upset by the employer’s actions, he says.
– They are cursed, sad, abandoned and feel ignored. The public health authority and the government have said that we must protect the elderly and the most vulnerable. Here, the Kiruna municipality does the opposite. They have such a sun-drenched view of their staff. That’s not wise, she says.
Zara Leghissa is concerned about how this will affect members’ trust in the municipality as an employer.
– Many have had enough and have resigned. They have become unemployed or have applied for other jobs because this is the last straw. The cup has overflowed. I understand them, but it makes me very sad to know how they feel. And I get so mad at the municipality. How can they attract staff to the profession when they behave like this? They have to recover, she says.

The answer: “Called the nearest workplace”
According to Håkan Dahlqvist, social manager of the Kiruna municipality, a priority initiative is underway to vaccinate those who work on the ground. Between 160 and 170 of around 700 members of the base’s personnel have been vaccinated, according to him.
– The reason we have vaccinated the managers is because we have tried to reuse the slats. What I got information from is that on one occasion, when they were vaccinating home care patients, they called the nearest workplace, which is a larger workplace when the day was over. And the only ones left were three unit chiefs, then there were no more.
The social director believes that the order of priority of the Public Health Authority has not been violated.
– I have spoken with the municipal leadership and they share the opinion that health managers are also worthy of protection, if we speak in those terms.
Do you understand the anger that some unit managers have received vaccines, when so many employees have not received them?
– If you have no knowledge of how it works, then I understand that it may seem strange for managers to go first. But we have vaccinated 160-170 in the base personnel and three managers. And I have had a dialogue with Kommunal at the local level, they have been involved in prioritizing core staff, says Håkan Dahlqvist.
Have you vaccinated yourself?
– I understood that question would come. Not you, I will stay away from the syringe so that spinners like this do not occur on social media.
