Most of the people in Skåne nursing homes have been offered the vaccine

Since Region Skåne started vaccinations at the end of last year, 34,000 doses of vaccine have been delivered to staff who are in charge of distributing the syringes.

Karin Johannesson, 89, from Råå, received the first Covid syringe on December 27. Since then, 34,000 doses have been distributed.

“Unfortunately, deliveries have fluctuated a bit over the past week,” says Maria Landgren, Pharmaceutical Director and Vaccine Coordinator in the Skåne Region.

After 89-year-old Karin Johannesson in Råå received her first injection on December 27, residents and staff of most of Skåne’s special homes for the elderly have been offered the first dose of the vaccine.

– Primary care has made a fantastic effort. Every dose is used and more doses are on the way, says Maria Landgren.

Nursing homes came first

The priorities of the region have been clear. The first group to be offered the syringe are people who live in special homes for the elderly or who have home health care and home care interventions.

At the same time, staff caring for particularly vulnerable people in elderly care, medical care and other care are vaccinated.

In addition, the first injection is given to adults living with someone who receives home health care and care interventions.

The region cannot specify how many special houses have been used so far, since the registration of orders and vaccinations carried out has a certain lag.

Only a few accommodations left

But it is said that only a few homes remain, and these will be completed soon.

In a second phase, vaccines will be offered to other health personnel and people in risk groups, including all those over 70, according to the region’s plan.

But the second group does not have time to start vaccination before the first vaccinated has their second syringe, which should be given about four weeks after the first.

Currently, the doses are only sufficient for those who were vaccinated first.

“Unfortunately, deliveries have fluctuated a bit over the last week, but thanks to good planning and foresight, we have enough doses to be able to give the second injection to those who were vaccinated before the turn of the year,” says Maria Landgren.
