Abroad: the risks of exercise that you had no idea

With the new year come new ambitions and in 2021 my ambition is Get in shape. It is true that I already have a way, but I would like another way.

I got into my current form thanks to the fact that the travel distance between my home and my workplace is now shorter than it used to be. In fact, only a few decimeters.

If I need coffee, I just grab my cell phone and mess with my husband. So he, who has a job that cannot be managed from home, can buy coffee on the way home. If, on the contrary, I want to have coffee, it is a little more, then I have to hurry several meters to go to the kitchen.

This amazing proximity at all it has not unexpectedly turned me into a television addict. Fortunately, I am forced to take daily walks with the crown dog that we have acquired.

Possibly I am not the only one who has made me addicted to television both in body and soul. I don’t know, because all I see now of my colleagues are their heads on a computer screen. But one indication that this is the case is that Dagens Nyheter now offers its employees joint digital training sessions twice a week.

No one has noticed that the most risky thing about a dog is not to stop at it, but to find its gaze

So I go to the gym and spread out my yoga mat. The dog cannot go there, of course. Then I spend thirty minutes doing things like lunges or standing in the yoga position “the dog.”

I know there are risks with exercising too violently. But no one has noticed that the riskiest thing about the dog is not to stop at it, but to meet his gaze.

Play the dog, offended at not being able to participate, like even four-legged friends are now welcome in the gym.

Like Lassie, who discovers a boy in a well and rushes for help, the dog takes a few quick steps toward the yoga mat. But when I stand on the “dog,” he refuses to do the same and instead lies on his back under me and licks my face. It’s unexpectedly difficult to focus on large muscle groups while thinking about whether it’s the smell of dog food or harbajs.

When he gets tired, he lies next to me and falls asleep. And I have to admit there are times when I think it’s the more sensible of the two.
