Swedish Uprising and South Korea’s Long-awaited Victory: When this week’s PGA competition was decided in California, Henrik Norlander and Kim Si-Woo shone.
Henrik Norlander was far behind on the field, but still with some chance of a good place in the PGA competition at La Quinta outside Palm Springs in California if he made it on closing day.
And the Swede, who came out on the 10th hole, did his best and quickly climbed the classification. After the first two birdies, an eagle appeared on the 16th hole. A good drive and a 230-meter tackle that landed on the green gave a ten-meter eagle putt that Norlander dropped on the par 5 hole.
Twelve finished
With another birdie two holes later, Norlander sniffed the top ten, but then the leading balls had barely started today’s game, and with just one birdie in the last nine and a total of 13, the chance of a true first place was gone. .
When everyone finished playing, Norlander finished a 12th-place split, ten strokes away from victory.
Today’s rocket, American Patrick Cantlay, was about to take home the victory check. Eleven birdies and 61 hits brought him to a total of -22, a dressing room lead and a long wait for the others in the fight above to clear.
Norén much later
They fell one by one, and in the end only Kim Si-Woo remained. With an equally safe and long birdie putt on the 17th hole, the South Korean had a golden opportunity to take home his first PGA Tour win since The Players Championship 2017, and a sure pair on the final hole arranged the win with a hit. and Kim was able to celebrate.
– I saw Patrick climb up, but I tried to stay calm and took a chance when they appeared. I will gain a lot of confidence from this, Kim says in the victory interview on the green.
The other Swede in the competition, Alex Norén, did not actually make it to the game. After a round of par, 72 strokes, he finishes at -8 and 40th place.
