LAHTIS / STOCKHOLM. Norway won the relay with superior style.
Sweden stood out for a great team effort and took second place.
“It feels incredibly exciting to have this Lahti feeling with me,” Charlotte Kalla tells Sportbladet.
Charlotte Kalla, who made a promising comeback in the World Cup yesterday, ran the first leg in a misty Lahti. When the 33-year-old handed himself over to Emma Ribom, Sweden was one of the top five teams.
– Today I dared to fight even more with lactic acid. It’s only about five kilometers, Kalla tells Sportbladet.
“Mixed emotions”
Norway’s Therese Johaug then divided, as expected, the field in the second leg. Ribom handed over to rookie Lovisa Modig after a strong distance, 25 seconds behind the Norwegian.
– It was with a mixture of horror and joy that I saw who I would face, says Emma Ribom and continues:
– I manage to keep up with (Natalia) Nepryaeva and (Jessie) Diggins. I’m almost a little proud that he’s fixing it today.
Overall, it was a great team effort from Sweden, lacking in several established skiers this World Cup weekend.
Ebba Andersson got a good starting position from Modig and overtook Finnish skier Krista Pärmakoski on the last leg. Sweden could reach a safe second place, 42 seconds behind Norway.
Disappeared in celebration
But when the Swedes celebrated the podium after the finish, a skier was missing: Charlotte Kalla.
– I had missed putting the number tag on the outside and also the mouth guard. I don’t have much experience, he laughs.
Ebba Andersson responds quickly:
– He has been in the World Cup circus since 2006, but says he has no experience. So I don’t know what to say about the rest of us!
The cold goes flat:
– I’ll sharpen. This was the last time, she says.
