Republican Mitch McConnell, now a minority leader in the Senate, proposes that the trial of former President Donald Trump take place in mid-February.
In a statement, McConnell said he had sent a calendar proposal to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat.
– We will review the proposal and discuss it with McConnell, says a Schumer spokesperson.
McConnell wants the House of Representatives to deliver the formal charges against Trump on Jan. 28 and give the former president two weeks to prepare his defense. But the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, did not want to say Thursday when the transfer will take place.
Senator Dick Durbin, who is the second Democrat after Schumer, said it had not yet been decided whether the Senate would have a “full trial with evidence and witnesses” or an “expedited” procedure.
