JT Brown 2017.
He was the first NHL player to protest during the national anthem.
Now JT Brown is ready – for Björklöven.
– He is a type of player we have missed, says sports director Per Kenttä.
Björklöven picks up two heavy NHL profiles when searching for SHL games. Francis Perron, 24, who was part of Erik Karlsson’s move from Ottawa to San Jose, and JT Brown, 30, are ready for the club.
– We want to add depth and edge to prepare for the playoffs, Per Kenttä says in a statement.
First to protest
JT Brown has 365 NHL games on his list of merits. He is also a pioneer in gender equality. In the fall of 2017, he became the first NHL player to protest during the American national anthem. Brown extended a clenched right fist in the air while the “Star-Spangled Banner” was performed, and was subsequently subjected to serious threats.
“I want to help draw attention to the issues we need to discuss,” Brown told the Tampa Bay Times.
“Big fun”
Brown spent five seasons in Tampa between 2013 and 2018. He recently came from playing for Minnesota’s grandfather team, Iowa Wild.
So now he, plus Francis Perron, joins hockey Björklöven, the hockey Swede.
“It’s very funny to be able to say that I will play for Björklöven for the rest of the season. Looking forward to the new challenge”, Writes Perron Twitter.
