Linus Andersson was a major contributor to Djurgården taking two points against Rögle. Stock Photography.
Djurgården had not won at Ängelholm since October 2017.
On Tuesday night, the losing streak was snapped when Linus Andersson completed the trade and brought home the victory on a penalty (3-2).
– I spoke with our goalkeeping coach and I came up with some variants, it was good to see him come in, says the winning shooter.
The last five times Djurgården went to Ängelholm, they had returned home with no points.
Niklas Hansson de Rögle did what he could to make the scenario repeat itself once more.
Halfway through the first act, Daniel Zaar’s pass opened a deep hole in the defense of the guests. Hansson got the puck and scored 1-0 at the net.
Hansson himself made life even more bitter for the guests five minutes later when he put the second on the same net roof.
Keep building
– I’m just trying to develop my game, both on offense and defense. Since then, lately it has paid dividends. I feel like I’ve done good things on the pitch for quite some time, then I got a new club for today so maybe he’s the one to do the trick, Hansson said in C More’s break interview.
But he was not the only scorer of the season. In Djurgården’s (Örebro) last match, a streak of five consecutive defeats had been stopped.
And with only 30 seconds remaining from the first act at Ängelholm, Jesper Pettersson made sure to breathe new life into the hope of a second straight win.
“Mentally nice”
– Mentally it was nice to have something to build on, said Jacob Josefson, whose legs at least touched the puck on the way to goal.
Malmö Redhawks sporting director Patrik Sylvegård and coach Joakim Fagervall watched the game from the stands. From there they studied Rögle before the next Skånederby (February 2). In the second period, Kalle Östman Malmöduon proved that Rögle is not unbeatable when he led Djurgården’s draw.
The third period ended goalless, the same thing happened in extra time and therefore the first penalty of the season was expected for Djurgården, who faced a league leader who has so far won two out of two.
And when Linus Andersson was left alone to score goals, the team is one hundred percent.
– We got into it. We had a difficult period with some losses in a row, but now we are on our way up. We have good team cohesion and we show character, he later told C More.
As if the defeat wasn’t bad enough, Rögle lost three players during the match: Trion Lucas Ekesthål-Jonsson, Adam Tambellini and Adam Edström were forced to break the match injured.
Substitute Joey LaLeggia has been picked up from Canada and is expected to join next week.
