SMHI warns of snowfall, but in the south it melts

Recently, southern Sweden has been showing off a gorgeous winter outfit. The cold, glistening snow landscape has drawn children to the toboggan runs.

Now the weather is making a U-turn. Already today, the temperature is around the zero degree mark in many places in southern Sweden, in several places it is one to two degrees higher, says Marcus Sjöstedt, a meteorologist at SMHI.

– Tomorrow the temperature will continue to rise.

In some places, there will be up to five degrees with snowfall turning into rain, he says.

Disturb the amount of snow

SMHI has issued a Class 1 snow warning for Värmland County this afternoon and evening.

– There may be larger amounts. Up to 10 centimeters.

Rain in combination with softer air, however, risks devouring the snow cover found in the southern half. Even in areas that now receive additional snowfall, says Sjöstedt.

– In both Götaland and Svealand, more titles are expected during the week.

The mild temperatures seem to persist through the weekend.

– So we see a trend to come back in the middle of next week.

Continuous winter in the north

In northern Sweden, it looks like winter will survive. Large amounts of snow arrived last week, mostly along the Norrland coast in Västernorrland county.

Now again, an area with snowfall is expected to find its way north.

– We have issued a hazard in Västernorrland county, where it can be 10-20 centimeters, locally 25 centimeters during Thursday afternoon and evening.

More snowfall is expected later on Friday and this weekend.

But the really low temperatures, down to minus 30 degrees, that have been in place, seem to calm down as cloud cover increases.
