FBI Background Check on Thousands of Soldiers
Ahead of US Vice President Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, US authorities are conducting additional background checks on military personnel who will be present. But according to the Pentagon, no evidence has been found that there are insurgents in the military.

The FBI has been called in to verify military personnel who will be on site during the installation, and Defense Secretary Christopher Miller said in a statement that the investigation is “normal for military support during major security incidents” and that “Even if we don’t have information indicating an internal threat, we turn every stone when we have to secure the capital.”
About 25,000 people from the National Guard are already in the city.
According to a Washington Post source, the Pentagon received 143 reports of extremism last year, 68 of which were suspected of domestic extremism among current and former employees, most of them men who had completed their military service.
“There is no room for extremism in the military and we will investigate each report individually and take appropriate action,” the Army said in a statement, adding: “The Army is determined to cooperate with the FBI to identify the individuals involved in the violent attack on the Capitol to determine if the individuals have any connection to the military. “
