On the night 17-year-old Mattias Borg disappeared, several strange screams were heard in the Replösa area of Ljungby.
That’s what her mother Erika Borg says. Along with Mattias’s twin brother, he desperately ran through the area to try to locate the screams.
– It sounded like a cry for help. It sounded like it came from a young man, says Erika Borg.
Mattias Borg, 17, of Ljungby, has been missing since December 5. Now his mother, Erika Borg, recounts the terrible hours when she realized her son was missing and how she was desperately searching for him.
That night, Mattias and his twin brother Dennis were invited to a party with a friend.
But at a quarter to two in the morning, twin brother Dennis came home alone from the party. He was stressed because he couldn’t find Mattias, and he had also discovered that Mattias’s shoes had been left at the house where the party had been.

Mattias Borg, 17, has been missing since December 5.
At first, mother Erika thought that Mattias was still somewhere in the big house where the party took place, so she and Dennis went back there.
– I was hoping you slept there somewhere.
Erika looked around the house, through the garage and inside. In the hallway he saw Mattia’s shoes.
– I was very scared when I saw that the shoes were left. That he was out in the cold.
Erika called 112 and the police arrived shortly after. A search was launched and Erika and Dennis were asked to go home.
“Like a cry for help”
But when they walked a bit, they heard someone yell and Dennis started running in that direction.
– There were regular cries for help. I clearly heard it was coming from the river area, so I yelled at Dennis that it would come back, says Erika.
Erika and her son ran to the Replösa area because they thought the screams were coming from there. On the bridge over Lagan, Dennis thought it sounded like a cry for help.
– We ran past the bridge. Dennis screamed in response, but suddenly only the other screams disappeared.
Erika and Dennis continued running through the area and also alerted the police who promised to search the area, but found nothing.
Marked dogs
In the following days, both police and volunteers searched various locations in Ljungby for Mattias. On December 9, the police launched a preliminary investigation into the kidnapping.
– There is no suspect, but there is a reason. This is a task that has come down to us, Roger Olsson, area manager for the local police, later told Aftonbladet.
The preliminary investigation is led by Detective Inspector Christina Severinsson in Växjö. She says no arrests have been made in the case. The next step in the investigation is to obtain Mattias’s DNA with the help of the family.
– It is a natural consequence of his disappearance. Then we have something to combine with if you meet someone, says Christina Severinsson.
On Thursday, police marked special search dogs in an area of the Lagan River. The search was carried out in a boat where the dogs were allowed to stand on deck and sniff out into the water. Dogs are trained to be able to detect the scent of a dead person. Police will now deploy divers to the area.
– It will be next week. Sometime in the middle of the week, says Hans Sjöberg, Ljungby municipal policeman.
Appeals for help
Erika Borg still hopes her son will be found safe and sound. But understand that the possibility diminishes with each passing day.
She thinks there may be someone sitting inside with information about what happened the night Mattias disappeared. But who does not dare to tell it. Therefore, now appeal to that person to come forward.
– Tell me. It can be counted anonymously. There are ways to do it, says Erika Borg, tears streaming down her throat.
– Someone must have heard the screams. Someone must have seen something but it didn’t show up.
