Along the E4, from Nyköping in the north to Jönköping in the south, several accidents occurred around midnight, in which both cars and trucks ran off the road or had other problems.
In two places, there were occasional stops on E4. At Stavsjö, north of Norrköping, there were two short-distance accidents leading to longer lines. First a car overturned at 10:30 and ten minutes later the next alarm sounded, in view of that accident.
– Two trucks skidded, did not go off the road but blocked parts of the lane, says Camilla Larsson, a police duty officer.
According to Norrköpings Tidningar between 40 and 50 trucks lined up at the site during the early morning hours.
There was also a stop south of Gränna, after an accident with a truck just before 01. There, the Swedish Transport Administration claims that traffic is redirected and that the E4 is expected to open early in the morning.
No serious injuries have been reported since the accidents. During the night, the Swedish Transport Administration warns of continued difficult road conditions with loose snow and muddy roads in much of Östergötland and northern Småland.
The problems continued in Skåne as well. Road conditions around Hässleholm and Kristianstad were very difficult on Wednesday and continued to be so during the night.
The Swedish Transport Administration states on their website that they work with anti-slip and plow. Later, the police remained in several places affected by accidents.
– We follow and cooperate with the Swedish Transport Administration. There have been no new more serious accidents, but there must be about 50 trucks that have had a difficult time getting out of there, says Magnus Lefèvre, police officer on duty in the southern region at 04:00.
Several roads in the area, and even Ystad, are closed and are expected to be until the morning.
Strong winds in the Sound meant wind-sensitive vehicles were discouraged from passing the Sound Bridge at night, a recommendation that was later dropped.
Slippery and difficult road warnings apply across a large part of the country, from Gotland to Västerbotten.
In Västernorrland County, at 04 o’clock, around 1,000 homes were still without power.
