People are queuing in Beijing to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
China has reported one death as a result of covid-19. He is the first person since May last year to die in the country after being infected by the coronavirus, according to authorities.
The official death toll in China is now 4,635. There were 138 new confirmed infections on Thursday, which is the highest daily increase since March last year.
The new death is reported as the country prepares to host a WHO delegation, which is expected to arrive in Wuhan on Thursday. The delegation of international experts will try to find out the origin of the virus, which was discovered in Wuhan at the end of 2019.
China has managed to keep the infection under control through tough closures, massive testing, and travel restrictions. But recently, more infections have been reported, especially in the northern part of the country, albeit in very low numbers.
28 million people in four cities, three in Hebei province and one in Heilongjiang province, are currently closed to stop the infection. In addition, the entire Heilongjiang province in northeast China has declared a state of emergency, urging its 37.5 million residents not to leave the province, unless absolutely necessary. All public meetings in the province were also canceled.
