After Donald Trump was installed as president of the United States, the post of ambassador in Stockholm was empty for more than two and a half years.
When billionaire and Paypal founder Ken Howery was finally appointed and took office in September 2019, it was after a historically unprecedented period with no US ambassador to Sweden.
Even during the Vietnam War in the late 1960s and 1970s, the ambassador’s chair in Stockholm was empty for so long, which SVT has previously reported.
Now, after just over a year in publication, Ken Howery has resigned, he writes himself on Twitter, that Expressen was the first to tell.
“The glory of my life”
“Being an ambassador to Sweden has been the honor of my life,” he wrote in a tweet.
Ken Howery was named ambassador by the president’s administration in 2018, but it took until September 2019 before the Senate approved the nomination. He then came from a career as a venture capitalist and, among other things, participated in the founding of the payment service Paypal.
In an interview with TT upon taking office, the ambassador cautiously responded to a question about President Donald Trump’s harsh rhetoric:
– The president is undeniably unconventional. But many voted for him precisely because he is sincere and focused on results.
