Party leader debate in the Riksdag: now clash

The infection situation in Sweden may be worse today compared to November last year, when the last parliamentary debate was canceled. But according to spokesman Andreas Norlén, it would not be reasonable to cancel two debates in a row, as it would be “a significant departure from the normal working methods of the Riksdag.”

– It was also a different situation in November. New restrictions had just been introduced. So it was reasonable that the Riksdag helped send the strong signal that everyone should reconsider everything they do, he tells TT.

Due to the pandemic, there are no listeners or members of the House.

Most likely, the pandemic will also be noticed in the debate itself, as one of the topics discussed. Other issues expected to be dealt with in advance are the unrest in the United States and the threat from the Left Party of a vote of no confidence against the government.

Before the debate, Liberal Party leader Nyamko Sabuni has said that she wants the government to withdraw the immigration proposals presented in December.

– I suppose you do it if you want the support of the liberals, which the government needs for the January agreement, he tells Expressen TV before the debate.

The debate begins shortly after 9 in the morning and is preceded by a speech by President Andreas Norlén on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Unicameral Parliament.
