Five people were killed in the assault on the United States Congress on Wednesday. The president is accused of inciting the mob that broke into the parliament building and is now threatened with a higher court. With Joe Biden in nine days to take office as the new president, several current and former employees Reuters has spoken with say the White House is a melting pot.
The mood is said to have deteriorated further since the relationship between Trump and Vice President Mike Pence broke down. The president has attacked Pence after he failed to prevent Congress from certifying the election result, and now they are no longer talking.
Loyal former employees within the administration has taken the hand of the president. They are said to be angry and embarrassed by the latest events. Now they just want to move on, but at the same time they are afraid of having damaged their rumors and future job opportunities.
– He lost us. It has lost its own administration. As I said, many of us feel betrayed, says a senior official in an authority outside the White House.
Some have considered resigning, but have decided to stay to ensure a smooth transfer of power to the Biden administration. Administration officials also want to make sure that Trump and his inner circle don’t do anything stupid.
Government officials are counting now the days until Trump resigns on January 20.
“I just heard that everything is a total collapse,” a former White House official told Reuters.
Some people in the White House consider anything that aims to enhance Trump’s performance as president to be deaf.
– Nobody cares. Absolutely. They are all wiped out and frankly they just want the next two weeks to go by, says an official.
