Indonesian authorities say they have likely found the place where a passenger plane is suspected to have sunk into the sea on Saturday.
It was a Sriwijaya Air airline plane with 62 people on board that disappeared from radar after taking off from Jakarta on Saturday. Fishermen have previously stated that they have seen the plane sink into the sea and have found parts of the wreck.
Now, the Indonesian Navy reports that it appears to be able to confirm the crash site. The signals that may come from the aircraft’s emergency transmitter have been recorded.
In addition, it is reported from search and rescue efforts that divers found remains and also parts of human bodies and belongings of travelers.
Ten ships and divers from the navy are participating in the search.
Coast Guard personnel are studying the findings made at sea at the site of the alleged accident.
The police are studying the contents of the bags on the ground.
The managing director of Sriwijaya Air has stated that the crashed plane was in good condition. According to him, the departure of the plane had been postponed for half an hour due to heavy rains.
The Boeing 737-500 jet rapidly lost altitude within minutes after taking off from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, outside the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
