The investigation after the storm against the Capitol grows and the picture slowly begins to clear.
The FBI is now investigating whether the mob planned to take the hostages, according to the Washington Post.
– We are interested in knowing what people would do with things like bridles, says a high official to the newspaper.
The US Department of Justice and the FBI are devoting all their resources to investigating and mapping those who attacked the Capitol on Wednesday. Four days after the attack, the image slowly begins to clear up with more and more details and suspects.
Several FBI investigators have been tasked with finding out what the true purpose of Trump supporters was.
Senior officials say there are likely a variety of motives behind the attack that are believed to have been planned. Hundreds of suspects are part of the investigation that has begun to map those who made it to the Capitol.
Investigators are now checking their phones, emails, and social media activities to find out if and how the attack was coordinated. Various posts on social media indicate that various people discussed how to raid the building. Police suspect that the attackers may have planned to attack the politicians by force.
The theory: planned to take hostages
According to information from the Washington Post, the FBI is investigating whether the mob had plans to take hostages in Congress. In various photos and videos of the storm, people can be seen with cable ties.
“We don’t see this as a major conspiracy, but we are interested in what people would do with things like cable ties,” an official told the Washington Post.

War veteran Larry Rendall Brock Jr. brought cable ties with him to Congress.
One of those with cable ties in his hands was combat veteran and former Air Force Lt. Col. Larry Rendall Brock Jr. Pictures show him wearing a combat helmet, security uniform and other “combat gear.” on the Senate floor and in the office of President Nancy Pelosi, The New Yorker reports.
Brock says he was in Washington to peacefully protest after Trump asked for his support that when he got to Capitol Hill he thought he was welcome in the building. However, he denies being in Pelosi’s office, despite surveillance footage indicating that he left. According to Brock, he found the zip ties on the ground and picked them up to give to a police officer.
He claims he was against trashing the building and was horrified when he understood the scope.
– I know it seems threatening. But that was not my intention, he tells the newspaper.
Bombed car discovered on Capitol Hill
Investigators are also checking whether an employee of the police force or the army was part of the mob. More than 50 people were arrested after the clashes, several of them armed at the time. Among other things, the police seized several weapons and homemade bombs.
The Justice Ministry has announced that so far 13 people are suspected of crimes related to the riots and that more are expected to occur.
Among other things, Lonnie Leroy Coffman, 70, is suspected of parking a pickup truck loaded with eleven homemade Molotov cocktail bombs. The car was two blocks from the Capitol for several hours before authorities discovered it, according to federal prosecutors. Coffman was arrested nearby and later was carrying two pistols.
Another man is said to have carried a rifle and large amounts of ammunition and said he wanted to kill or run over the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
