American experts do not believe that Donald Trump will be ousted.

Instead, you can resign or do something that no previous president has tried: forgive yourself.

– Every time you start a sentence “it wouldn’t be Donald Trump …” the answer is yes, says Andreas Utterström.

After the historic assault on the parliament building, many heavyweights abandoned Donald Trump. Five people have died in connection with the events.

Yesterday, the president gave a speech in which he said that “those who broke the law will have to pay,” and that he will now focus on handing over power without friction.

– There is a threat of using Supplement 25 or bringing it back to the Supreme Court. I think he feels pressured to calm the mood, for his own good, says Merrick Tabor, a political scientist at Stockholm University.

The speech sounded as if someone else had written it, says the political scientist.

– You have accepted that there will be a new president, but you have not backed down on whether the election is legitimate or not. It will continue to claim that it was electoral fraud.

Police deaths increase pressure on Trump

Removing a president through the 25th Amendment is something that has never been done. Something that is unlikely but possible, if the closest employees turn their backs, political scientist Dag Blanck tells TT.

– Clear proof is required that the president has somehow lost control. That he can no longer do his job.

Another thing that is being discussed is bringing Donald Trump to the Supreme Court. In that case, he would be the first American president to participate twice.

Such a move could very well be started, but it is unlikely to lead to the impeachment of Donald Trump, according to political scientist Merrick Tabor.

Instead, he believes in the first place that Trump will leave the presidency to be pardoned by Vice President Mike Pence.

An alternative is for Donald Trump to try to forgive himself, something no previous president has done.

– Not many people believe that the Supreme Court will accept pardon. So it is a risk. Now he could be prosecuted for very serious points, says Merrick Tabor.

Political scientist Merrick Tabor believes that Trump will leave the presidency to be pardoned by Vice President Mike Pence.

Why could it be prosecuted?

– This with incitement. Now one of these policemen who was injured has died. Of course, he cannot be held personally responsible for it, but if you have contributed to the events that led to the death, there may be quite a few points for which, in principle, you could be prosecuted. In addition to many other points discussed above, tax crimes and all, says Merrick Tabor.

“It would fuel Trump”

US communications consultant and expert Andreas Utterström, for his part, does not believe that Donald Trump will resign.

– I think Donald Trump will stay for the rest of his life and will forgive himself walking out the door. Removing Trump from the throne in any way at this point would be a success for Democrats in the short term, but in the long term they give him more fuel in his perpetual accusations that he has the establishment and the elite against him.

Utterström also believes that Vice President Pence wants to keep his distance from Trump.

– I think Mike Pence is the one who wants to stay the furthest away from Trump right now. He will definitely run in the 2024 presidential election and for four years he has tried to balance between being loyal to the president and at the same time standing up for himself, Andreas Utterström continues.

Pence will want to stay away from Trump as of late, believes US expert Andreas Utterström.

Although self-forgiveness is something that has not been proven at all, Utterström believes that Donald Trump will try.

– Lawyers disagree on whether this is allowed because it has never been tried. But every time you start a sentence with “Donald Trump väl,” the answer is yes, says Andreas Utterström.
