Early Thursday morning was calm again around the capital’s congress buildings. But there were still traces of the chaotic development of the previous day, when the protests turned violent and hundreds of Trump supporters entered the Capitol.
Blocked accounts
Despite several calls to try to calm down, the president reiterated his message of flagrant electoral fraud and urged not to let “opponents” take power.
Eventually did that Twitter announced that the president’s account will be closed for twelve hours. If Trump doesn’t delete the most provocative posts, the account will remain locked.
Facebook and Instagram also chose to block the president’s account.
One shot, four dead
A woman was shot by police as she entered the Capitol during Wednesday’s protests. She was later found dead along with three other people. At a news conference, Police Chief Robert Contee said all three had died in “medical emergencies.”
Several people were taken to the hospital and several policemen were injured. More than 50 people were arrested during the violence in the capital.
Only after several hours did the police remove the protesters from the Capitol and Congress was able to resume its work where Joe Biden was formally approved as the next president of the United States.
