Real Madrid star Karim Benzema is accused of attempted extortion, according to the Versailles Prosecutor’s Office.
The blackmail will be linked to a sex video with his former colleague of the French team Mathieu Valbuena.

Benzema, who has not been selected for the French national team since the 2015 incident, has been accused of pressuring Valbuena to pay the people who threatened to publish the video. Now he will be charged with attempted extortion.

A misunderstanding, according to Benzema
In 2016, Benzema and three others involved tried to close the investigation on the grounds that the police used dishonest methods.
Benzema himself has said that it is all a misunderstanding and that he was in fact trying to help his teammate.
According to the French L’Equipe, four other men are also accused of extortion in the case.
The trial date is expected to be announced in the next few days.
