The riot broke out shortly after 8pm Swedish time, when the protesters managed to break through the barricades around the congress building. Police tried to detain people with tear gas, but failed.
Vice President Mike Pence has been escorted out of Congress, Reuters reports.
The protesters have managed to enter in the congress building, it shows live television images.
– People who have entered the congress building have drawn weapons and used tear gas, says US commentator for Swedish radio Ginna Lindberg.
According to Lindberg, this is related to Trump claiming there was electoral fraud and urging his supporters to demonstrate against the election result.
– Trump has asked his supporters to demonstrate, they have listened to their president and now some of the protesters are inside the congress building. It is hugely dramatic images that are reproduced, says Lindberg on the Ekot livestream.

Congressional hearing to confirm Joe Biden as the winner of the election he has been suspended after the protesters entered Congress, US media report. Several nearby buildings have been evacuated by the police.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has issued a curfew from 6pm local time (that is, midnight Swedish time) on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday morning local time.
At 9:30 p.m. Swedish time, the AP reported that a person had been shot in or at the congress building. The exact circumstances are unclear. According to CNN sources, a woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest in the convention area.
Delstaten Virginia announced around 9:30 pm that it will send National Guard soldiers and 200 state police to Washington DC at the request of the mayor, Reuters reports.
