The BBC is investing in teaching during the shutdown

The British utility company BBC is undertaking a historically large educational effort for homeschooling children starting next week, the company states in a press release.

Investments are made when elementary schools are forced to remain closed for most students, in connection with the closure to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The children’s channel CBBC will broadcast, among other things, a three-hour programming block for elementary school students. BBC Two will focus on content for high school students.

School closures force students into home and distance education and have sparked a debate about differences in students’ ability to get help with their studies at home.

Several UK mobile and broadband operators are also removing data restrictions to help children with disabilities watch lessons online.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday the government hopes to be able to reopen schools in mid-February.
