Shortly after noon on December 5, 17-year-old Mattias Borg left a party in the Hjortsberg district of Ljungby.
According to witnesses, he did not have a jacket, shoes, mobile phone or keys.
A large search operation with the police, the Armed Forces and hundreds of volunteers began in the hope that Mattias would be found safe and sound, but there was no trace of the boy.
After a couple of days, the initial huge search effort faded, but the search has continued to varying degrees since then.
In recent weeks, voluntary search organizations have searched large areas and reported what they saw to the police.
Wanted by large areas
Police have also searched the area with dogs and drones and Mattias is suspected of being kidnapped.
– We have received information that needs to be verified. But we have no suspects in the case, police said in early December.
It has been just over a month since Mattias disappeared and police describe the incident as a mystery.
– Last week we went back to searching for dogs in some areas. We haven’t really found anything that has advanced our perception of what happened. We don’t know anything other than what we knew the night he disappeared, says Roger Olsson, area chief of the local police in Ljungby.
All areas near where Mattias was last seen have been searched.
– We have searched large areas in a systematic way according to the method we have. We have searched the team with a dog on several occasions and have had divers on site several times. Without having made any findings. We have searched with drones both below and above the water, says Roger Olsson.
“A riddle”
He continues:
– Unfortunately, the whole thing is still a mystery to us.
According to information to the police, Mattias knocked on the door of a nearby house before disappearing and according to the mother Erika Borg, he may have been looking for a person.
– We have conducted a large number of interrogations with the last people who observed him, so to speak. Of course we have spoken with those people, but we have not advanced further. There are many interrogations carried out in this case. Probably a hundred interrogations. It’s painstaking work we’ve done, says Roger Olsson.
The police are still waiting to receive a lead that leads to something concrete.
The last piece of information was a dead end for the police.
– The last clue we followed until last week was that you found some clothing that you could possibly trace back to him, but it was not possible to do so and the search was fruitless.
“It should have been made known”
At the moment, the police have a hard time believing that Mattias is alive.
– It is outdoors, in winter and I had no outerwear. That possibility would be more or less ruled out. It would be if he had voluntarily gone somewhere safe. But then I can think that it should have been released now, says Roger Olsson.
In recent days, images of Mattias have abounded on social networks along with the call of mother Erika Borg to see her son again.
Celebrities have also gotten involved in the mystery and have shared photos of Mattias. Some of them are Pernilla Wahlgren, Anna Book, Laila Bagge, John Lundvik, Zara Larsson, Bianca Ingrosso and Johanna Nordström.
– It means a lot. The information is then disseminated throughout the country. He may have been abducted and if the information gets out, there is a greater chance that someone will recognize him, says mother Erika Borg.
100,000 crowns
She describes great support as a driving force. In his fight, he has also come away with a huge salary of 100,000 crowns if Mattias is found.
– The hope is that if someone knows something, it will come that way. Or that someone feels that the search is more worth the time.
Not knowing what happened is terrible, the mother tells Mattias.
– It’s constant fear.
She continues:
– Is my heart. We are waiting for it.
